macy the dogMy beloved Macy,

I have been so fortunate to have you as part of my life. Thank you so much for accompanying me for almost fifteen years.

I still vividly remember our first encounter fifteen years ago when I was just four, where my sister and I repeatedly begged Mum to take you back home. Your smile instantly melted my heart at the first sight. We grew up together and you had always been a good companion of mine – always there to support me and to share my joy and sadness.

I will never forget the moments that we had spent together – taking a nap together on the sofa, watching you savouring your snacks, talking to you while you were sitting on my lap… I will never forget how you pretended to be innocent after messing up the living room and how you responded quickly when you heard there was food for you.

I still remember when I played Chopin’s works, you would wake up and listen attentively. I guess you are a big fan of Chopin. Are you? I will not forget how you slept comfortably in your own bed when I was playing Bach’s Preludes and Fugues and how you showed disdain when I was practising some contemporary music.

I still remember how you disturbed me from practising by making noises (by drinking water) and just want to tell you how much I miss being disturbed by you. I still remember holding you and “teaching” you how to play the piano.

I would just like to send the following pieces to you – which, I can say, are the distillation of our memories.

Above all, I will not forget your smile and the joy you had brought to us. I will always cherish the countless fond memories we had created together, and you will certainly stay in my heart forever.

Quoting Martin Luther, “The dog is the most faithful of animals and would be much esteemed were it not so common. Our Lord God has made His greatest gifts the commonest”. It is so true. I am so thankful to have such a great and faithful companion in my life and I am sure we will also be so in our next lives. Promise me that you will eat well, sleep well and live happily in the very distant world that you are now living in.

With love,
Anson
