The HKICMF was first launched in 2009 by Premiere Performances of Hong Kong. As a registered charity, The PPHK is designed to contribute to the cultural diversity of the city by organizing concerts and recitals of classical music with high international standards. The HKICMF presents a series of chamber music performances featuring world-class musicians and rising talents, which is to benefit audiences of all ages.

In 2012, Chinese violinist Cho-Liang Lin takes over the position as Artistic Director and introduces a glamorous cast: Andreas Haefliger, Tan Dun, Gary Hoffmann, Ying Huang, Kyoko Takezawa, the Shanghai Quartet and many more artists will be under the spotlight. Besides concerts, Cho-Liang Lin, Andreas Haefliger, Paul Neubauer, Marina Piccinini and Gary Hoffman will give masterclasses; Tan Dun and Cho-Liang Lin will give a pre-concert talk on Ghost Opera; music critic Sam Olluver from South China Morning Post will also teach audience how to listen to a concert like a critic.
