Founded in 1934 by John Christie and his opera singer wife, Audrey Mildmay, Glyndebourne is committed to presenting opera of the highest quality, commissioning new work, developing emerging talent and reaching greater audiences. Held in an English country house near Lewes in East Sussex, the festival is particularly celebrated for its productions of Mozart operas since its inception. Another event highlight includes Glyndebourne’s signature long interval which allows opera-goers the opportunity for picnic dinners on the extensive lawns or in one of the restaurants in the grounds.
