Date: June 20 to August 15, 2010
Country: Germany

Founded in 1997 by bass-baritone Ludwig Baumann, the Opera Festival is held annually in the area of Chiemgau, south Germany. It aims to present operatic works, along with orchestral concerts, and to provide performance opportunities for promising young singers. To introduce operas to the younger generation, extensive education programmes are offered to children.

The 14th edition this year will be opening with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, played by the Pilsen Radio Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of the Festival’s Music Director Cornelia von Kerssenbrock. Then four operas will be staged: Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, with the music by the Munich Symphony Orchestra; Carmen by Bizet, with Yvonne Fontane as the leading lady; Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera, a production for youngsters; and Noah’s Ark by Benjamin Britten, performed by 200 local youngsters. In the ‘Grande Finale’ concert, Chinese tenor Kejia Xiong, First-Prize winner of the 2nd Lions International Vocal Competition Good Immling, and other laureates, will deliver works by Verdi and Wagner.
