Website: http://www.lucernefestival.ch
Date: August 10 to September 18, 2011
Country: Switzerland
As the annual assembly of virtuosic musicians, the establishment of Lucerne festival can be traced back to the days of 1938, when Toscanini conducted an elite orchestra facing Richard Wagner’s villa. Throughout the years, the festival itself has expanded with more diversity, featuring a set of three flagship festivals per year- Lucerne Festival in Summer, Lucerne Festival at the Piano and Lucerne Festival at Easter. The breath-taking scenery of Lake Lucerne facing Mount Pilatus and Rigi in the Swiss Alps will certainly double the sensation as audience marvel at Abbado’s conducting Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
The 2011 edition of Lucerne Festival in Summer is themed upon ‘nocturnal’ sound, exploring the phenomenon of the night in music. It will focus on composers who are visionaries and dreamers, on the mystics and masters of dark sounds. Audience will be happy to welcome maestros like Riccardo Muti, Simon Rattle, Pierre Boulez, Radu Lupu, Daniel Barenboim and more artists under the spotlight.
