Website: http://www.glyndebourne.com

Date: May 21 to August 28, 2011
Country: United Kingdom

Founded by John Christie and opera vocalist Audrey Mildmay in 1934, the festival focuses on presenting opera performances of highest quality. Each year, six productions including new commissioned works will be performed in the hope of developing new talents and reaching to new audiences.

Featuring Gerald Finley as Hans Sachs and Marco Jentzsch as Walther with Vladimir Jurowski as the conductor, a new production of Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg will be brought under the spotlight to spark the opening of the 2011 edition. Robin Ticciati will take the role to lead the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment to revive the period stage settings of Mozart’s Don Giovanni to the modern ears, with Lucas Meachem, Albina Shagimuratov among the casts. Stephen Costello will team up with Danielle de Nieses to portray Nemorino and Adina respectively in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. Handel’s first Italian opera created in Britain, Rinaldo, will be conducted by Ottavio Dantone, with Sonia Prina as Rinaldo and Sandrine Piau as Almirena. Under Sir Andrew Davis’ baton, Dina Kuznetsova will team up with Pavel Černoch to take the roles of Rusalka and the Prince respectively in Dvořák’s Rusalka. A conclusion of the event with Britten’s The Turn of the Screw will definitely carve an impressive trace, in which Giselle Allen will be Miss Jessel, and Toby Spence as Peter Quint under Jakub Hrůša’s conducting.
