Launched by former opera singers Eloise Snyder, August Spain and Jeanne Axtell Walker in 1946, it is the aim of the festival to offer a variety of artistic musical performances and to become internationally recognized.

The 2011 edition features four operas, ranging from classic to modern works. In addition to Verdi’s Il Trovatore and Handel’s Julius Caesar are two contemporary operatic works- Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado as well as Allen Ginsberg and Philip Glass’ Hydrogen Jukebox will also be presented on stage. On top of professional opera concerts, Fort Worth is also famous for its numerous historical and cultural attractions, including National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Sundance Square and more.
