In the 2011 edition, opera lovers will surely savor the feast of opera classics. The festival opens with Puccini’s Suor Angelica, featuring Isabelle Sabrié as Sister Angelica and Elaine Martorano as The Princess with Luiz Fernando Malheiro as musical director. Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites will be performed by Michelle Canniccioni, Leonardo Neiva, Flávio Leite and more. Directed by Marcelo de Jesus, Carl Orff’s magnificent Camina Burana will be presented on stage with Katia Freitas, Flávio Leite and Igor Vieira. Händel’s Messiah will be under the spotlight, featuring soloists Tamar Freitas, Lincoln Pires, Enrique Bravo and Vinicius Atique. Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde will also appear on stage with John Charles Pierce as Tristan and Eliane Coelho as Isolde. On the other hand, soloists will also perform selected arias from Bizet’s Carmen, Verdi’s Otello and Aida, Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and The Magic Flute, Puccini’s La Bohème, Madame Butterfly, Gianni Schicchi and Turandot, Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Bellini’s Norma and many more.
