Date: July 15 to August 7, 2010
Country: France
Chorégies d’Orange launched its first Festival in 1860, and now has been among the oldest festivals in France. The Chorégies, which comes from the Greek word “choreos”, has retained its tradition at the well-preserved Roman Theatre, a monument dated back to the Roman era which could hold 9,000 spectators.
This year the Chorégies d’Orange will present, as usual, several large-scale opera productions at the Roman Theatre. The programme includes Puccini’s Tosca produced by Nadine Duffaut, and Gounod’s Mireille by Robert Fortune, accompanied by Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and Orchestre National de Bordeaux-Aquitaine respectively. Some of the artists will appear for the first time at Chorégies, including conductors Mikko Franck and Alain Altinoglu, sopranos Nathalie Manfrino and Catherine Naglestad, baritone Falk Struckmann, and others. Aside from operas, there will be symphonic and lyric concerts, featuring Fazil Say on Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1, and soloist Natalie Dessay on vocal works by Bellini and Donizetti.
