"Maria Canals" Barcelona International Music Competition

Established in 1954 by the pianist Maria Canals and her husband Rossend Llates, the International Music Competition Maria Canals of Barcelona has been welcoming considerable number of musical talents over years. The Competition consists of several categories, which include piano, violin, singing, cello, chamber music, guitar, percussion and flute, with participation from over 7000 candidates from 100 countries, and 180 Jury members from all over the world. Contestants who are no longer participating in the competition may perform in concerts in various parts of the city of Barcelona upon invitation and with permission.

Bringing top musicians from all over the world to Japan since 2006, the Takamatsu International Piano Competition aims at introducing a fresh perspective in music to Kagawa's traditional culture. The competition is to be held at Sunport Takamatsu, a venue which provides impressive views of the beautiful Seto Inland Sea. Winners will have the opportunity to further pursue their music careers by staging their own recitals and performing with international orchestras. Comprising a number of international musicians, the Jury will be led by the Japanese pianist Shuku Iwasaki.

The International Jeunesses Musicales Competition Belgrade was founded in 1969 by one of the world’s biggest non-profit networks for youth and music, the Jeunesses Musicales International. With the aim of working against causes of international conflict through the universal language of music, this network is regarded by UNESCO as one of the most important youth culture organizations worldwide. Dedicated to the most gifted musicians at the beginning of their international careers, the competition welcomes young talents from anywhere around the world every year, competing to show the highest level of professional readiness and competence on stage. The 7th Internationaler Klavierwettbewerb (International Piano Competition) "J. S. Bach" Würzburg is a contest specially dedicated to J.S. Bach, one of the greatest Baroque composers. The competition welcomes young pianists of all nationalities who are capable of demonstrating profound skills and presenting Bach’s repertoires with individualistic interpretations. Members of the Jury include Monique Duphil, Silke-Thora Matthies, Anne Borg, Malta, Chih-Yu Chen and others from different countries. This year’s competition will be held in memory of Walter Blankenheim, one of the founders and the head of this contest.

The International Stasys Vainiūnas Piano and Chamber Ensembles Competition

The International Stasys Vainiūnas Piano and Chamber Ensembles Competition was initiated by a group of Lithuanian musicians in 1965. Among them was Stasys Vainiūnas, a distinguished composer, concert pianist and the first international competition laureate in Lithuania. It has been organized by the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture since 1996. Audiences will be able to listen to contestants’ performances of piano or chamber pieces by Vainiūnas during the competition process. Over the years, members of the Jury have generally been composed of a number of accredited professors from different nations, including the likes of Avedis Kouyoumdjian from Austria in 2006 and Eugenijus Ignatonis from Lithuania in 2001.
