Music lover, amateur cellist and banker, Walter Naumburg, established in 1926 the Walter W. Naumburg Foundation to assist young gifted musicians and promote classical music throughout America. The competition disciplines, including piano, violin, viola, cello and voice, rotate every year. This year, pianists aged from 17 to 32 will meet in New York for audition. In addition to two full recital programmes, contestants must also submit two concertos, one by Mozart or Beethoven, and one by either a Romantic or Modern composer.
