The Savonlinna Opera Festival will organise its first international singing competition at the Olavinlinna Castle, an unique architecture with excellent acoustics. It aims to promote and support new opera singers. Twenty participants are selected for preliminary rounds to perform two opera arias of their choice with piano accompaniment. Six finalists will be chosen and they will be accompanied by the Savonlinna Opera Festival Orchestra. Michele Angelini, Igor Bakan and Laura Nicorescu are on the contestant list. The jury is chaired by Jari Hämäläinen. Elaine Padmore, Andrés Rodrìguez, Jonathan Friend, Vincenzo de Vivo and Bruno Michel will be the members.
