Founded by Italian pianist, Rina Sala Gallo, the competition has been held since 1947 in Monza, a historical city located in northern Italy. It has become a biennial event since 1970. Masterpieces such as Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin’s concertos are in the repertoire, plus other romantic works. Past winners include Bernd Glemser, Daniel Rivera, Mihkel Poll, Giampaolo Stuani and Ilya Poletaev.
