Established in 1954 by the pianist Maria Canals and her husband Rossend Llates, the International Music Competition Maria Canals of Barcelona has been welcoming considerable number of musical talents over years. The Competition consists of several categories, which include piano, violin, singing, cello, chamber music, guitar, percussion and flute, with participation from over 7000 candidates from 100 countries, and 180 Jury members from all over the world. Contestants who are no longer participating in the competition may perform in concerts in various parts of the city of Barcelona upon invitation and with permission.
