International Guitar Competition “Michele Pittaluga” City of Alessandria Prize

The competition was established by Dr. Michele Pittaluga in 1968 to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the foundation of Alessandria, a city located in northwestern Italy. Held every year in September, it aims at spreading guitar repertoires and supporting talented guitarists. To further promote contemporary guitar music, the Michele Pittaluga International Competition for Composition for the Classical Guitar was also set up since 1997. Representatives from the world guitar scenes are invited as jury members. Andres Segovia and Alirio Diaz were some of the previous jurors in the early editions. In addition to prize money and medal, the winner will be engaged in concert series around the Italian cities and abroad. Former winners such as Stefano Grondona, Leonardo de Angelis and Elena Papandreou had developed splendid concert career.
